CD-117

CD-117, also known as c-kit, is most commonly used to confirm the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), often in conjunction with DOG- 1 stain. This tumor has overlapping appearance with leiomyoma (SMA, desmin pos) and neurofibroma (S-100 pos), and therefore a panel is indicated.

It also highlights mast cells, as well as myeloid stem cells, and can therefore be very useful when considering mast cell neoplasms, myelodysplastic syndromes, and myeloid leukemia.
